Just a question. Do alot of people on here mind if we use their ideas? I have been looking at some cakes, and if I use the idea I will definetly give credit to whom I got it from. Just don't want to peeve someone off. Thanks. |

I think the general consensus is that it's nice to ask them, but even more appropriate to also credit them with inspiring you when you post your photo in the gallery after the fact. |

I think a lot of folks (most, maybe?) are very complimented when you like their work enough to want to try it yourself! |

I take it as a huge compliment when someone uses one of my cakes as inspiration. I don't need to be asked but I love to get a PM from another cake decorator saying thanks for the inspiration. Always makes me day |

Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure I was not going to step on any toes. I will do my best to make it a little of my own and thanks those for the inspiration. |

Wow! I would be honored if someone liked my cake enough to want to copy it, or use it for inspiration! |

My personally feelings is if someone doesn't want a cake they have done copied they should not post the picture on the internet for the world to see.
I had many people ask me after I posted the black and white cake if they could copy it. And in my head I was thinking if I said no would you not do it? How would I ever know unless you posted it. And since I hardly get a chance to look at pictures, I probably wouldn't know.
I've actually wondered if anyone has copied it yet. |

I finally posted some pictures here. I am so obsessive, i check all the time to see how many people have added them to their favorites - I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if one of my cakes inspired someone else - no need to ask - that is why I posted them. |

We are at a point where most ideas you see are not totally original. They were inspired by someone else and built on. When that happens it is hard to know whom to credit. I just try to build on an idea instead of copying and credit people when I can. |

I agree with you "TexasSugar" if some posts their work anywhere their design might get redone. Even if someone was to say no, how would they really know or try to go about finding out. I think it's cool when people remember who gave them the inspiration. I aways try to do that now.
Good Luck. |

Oh my goodness! I hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes!
I have shamelessly copied others on every single cake I have made since I discovered CC. I have never asked for permission in advance, but I do make a point to give credit to a specific person if I print out a picture of their cake to use as "inspiration."
I usually get ideas from several cakes and manage to screw up a few things so it never ends up looking exactly like anyone else's anyway.

IMHO I don't really think you need to ask to make someone elses design. That's why we all post our pictures here. To get ideas and inspiration. I would just give credit to the person who originally had done it. |

Exactly. That's only coomon sense.
It would be hard to believe that the majority of ideas don't come from some other inspiration (in part or whole). |
