I went last year and had a blast! The teachers are very good, and very nice. I'm not a morning person, so being there at 7am was a little like "icing bootcamp" to me--but even so, I really enjoyed it.
They basically supply everything you need for class, so you really don't need any of your tools and things. Although they have some books there, I wish I had known to take some of my favorite cake books/pictures. You end up creating a final project the second week, and it would help to have some of your favorite ideas with you.

Dear All,
I am keen to take up this course by end of this year or early next year. The only set-back is that I leave in Asia and am wondering if is it really worth the money & time to travel to IL. Does Wilton cater for international students?
I would really like to know your expert advise. Am still in the planning stage. My heart says go....but am confused. Please help me come to a decision.

When I did the Masters 2 years ago, there were at least 4 students out of 24 who were from various other countries. Most came over mainly for the Masters, but also stayed a while longer to take additional classes.
If you contact Sandy Folsom, the school director (info on the website), she can tell you more. I know that Wilton is very proud of the number of international students that they've taught over the years. In general, all of the school staff are great decorators and wonderful people.
As far as "catering" to foreign students, I don't think that they do anything special. As with any other student traveling from a distance in the US, you're pretty much on your own to find housing, transportation, etc. All classes are in English but I know in at least one case, a pair of Japanese students sort of co-translated for another student who didn't understand much English.
Sandy also travels internationally and does the Masters class at various venues. She may be able to tell you if she'll be in your part of the world in the next several years.

I have just registered for the November class, and am just looking into flights. I have registered for the additional classes, it is a long way for me also, so I want to make it worth it!
I booked the TownePlace Suites, Marriott. They included a breakfast and they do the shuttle.
I originally booked the Holliday Inn Willowbrook, but they were 200$ more , and they didn't include the breakfast.
Anyother thoughts about what we should know??

Oh gd. Kettlevalleygirl, how much is Marriot charging you? I will probably take up the course early next year (by Mar 09). Need to save up 1st. I have send an email to Sandy at Wilton. Will share with you whatever information i get from her. |

OK, don't choke, $1226. for 13 nights! It doesn't have shuttle from the airport, but it does have a shuttle for Wilton, and also it has a breakfast (continental), which is ok with me...I hate wasting time in a restaurant in the morning.
I don't know if there is anything better out there, so if anybody is watching this please let us know..
All I can be thankful is that the Canadian/American exchange rate is better for us know!!
This is a big investment for us!! We could have gone on a cruise!!
Just joking, I am really looking forward to it. |

I've never taken the class but I live near the school and have taken a lot of the other classes and have seen the pieces the MC are working on. You'll have a lot of fun. I recommend taking the extra classes. I took the gumpast flowers and it was great. the pulled sugar might be good for pro's but for a rank amature like me, it wasn't worth it.
to any of you, if you're here for 2 weeks and have fee time over the weekend, pm me and I can make suggestions or I'd be happy to show off my town.

oh wow!!!!!! that's ex for me. need to source for budget accommodations for myself but the transfer to wilton school sounds good. will get all the tips from you upon your course completion.
