I understand that you wanted to share the story because you thought it was funny. I can totally relate. We got a dog for my daughter and I have never even thought of a dog getting up to a cake on the dining room table as it cools to eat some of it but this dog can climb a tree (found that out later) and she got up and ate some of a cake that was cooling. I was more worried about her getting sick from eating the cake than having to remake it. It was not an order and was for us so no big deal but it is a funny story to think about..... now about climbing trees.... we had to put things up in the tree to keep her from going up to high. She figured the squirrels can do it so she could too!!!! |

Yup, and my son sticks his hand in his diaper, my husband scratches himself, and my little sister picks her nose.
Point is, there is lots of disgusting stuff going on....you never know what could happen- so unless you want to be talked down to whenever you tell a cute story about YOUR child grabbing a handful of icing out of the bowl, your husband trying to "Help" or whatever, I think we should all just laugh it off- she DIDN'T serve it to anyone but her and her husband from what I understand- and if they have a cat, they more than likely are not SOOOOOOO disgusted by it.
Can we get back to fighting about Mix vs. Scratch, "American" Buttercream vs whatever the other stuff is? Something not so personal? LOL. |

I have not been able to finish a fondant bow and dry it properly, every time I get close my chihuhua decides to eat it, no matter where I put it he can sniff it out. He is definately a fondant kinda guy! |

The thing is that no one seems to want to hear is that it was a cake FOR HER.. not for someone else. I'm with the hippo comment.. if I make a cake for me and I drag it on the floor and let my kids stick their boogar fingers in it and then my cat licks the BC off one side while my dog licks the other.. I'm gonna eat it if I want to.. Would NEVER in a mazzilion years serve it to others, but for me.. it's up to me what I consider nasty for my own body.. (not that I would actually eat a cake that went through all of that but just for argument's sake here). |

I have to say Jkalman that your post was quite amusing! I can't quit laughing!! I agree with everyone else! She was sharing the story so we could all get a good laugh and it worked. If the item is for home, it is up to us to decide whether or not we partake in it after people and /or animals get to it!
EnjoyTheCake-I think it is a cute story and feel bad for you that you have to rebake! Also, I love that cake in your avatar. I wanetd to save it to my favs and noticed you don't have any there. You must be as bad as me about downloading your pics!! Thank you for the laugh!!! |

HA HA HA!! This post has me laughing - you probably don't want to KNOW if she licked or touched other parts..... but at the same time, I have found that "cat people" or "dog people" don't mind sharing food with their animals.... I'm a "horse person" & I don't care if they lick me with their gross/grassy tongue =) So, hopefully you are one of those extreme cat people & don't care =)
I just gave a Bridal Consultation where the Mother-of-the-Groom explained how she had made 2 apple pies for a family reunion... and it was covered & everything. She noticed that there were 4 pigeons in the box, with the cellophane wrap still over the top - so she doesn't know how they got in, but they weaseled themselves in & ruined/ate both pies! |

Let me just say that a hair can show up anywhere! I work for a major touristy restaurant famous for its pies and guess what? I served a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie, the lady called me over and with her hand covering her mouth and a completely grossed out look on her face and said there was hair "inside" her pie and she preceded to show me the hair. Need less to say they were not charged for their pie. Did I mention that the hair looked suspiciously like one of her own! You would not believe what lengths some people will go to to get a free meal!! Who's to know?? |

I've had cats all my life (I won't say how many yrs). I have never had one that ate sweets. This is a new one for me.
Having pets when you bake is a pain. I normally bake for friends. I clean the kitchen before I start baking which sucks because I have to clean it again when I'm done.
Our Dog passed away last July and DH is bugging me to adopt a Grayhound. Some of you may not know that when a Grayhound is passed it's racing prime they have it put under unless an organization saves it for adoption.
Most of the old timers here know that we have had many, many license vs. non-license bakers. But, I wold rather eat in someones home that has animals than a resturant. I've worked in them I know what goes on. |

I can so relate to this story! My cats and dogs won't touch cake or anything sweet.. but one of my cats LOVES anything Italian. They do not go to the kitchen except for water, and have never jumped on counters since they were kittens. My italian loving kitty however managed to knock a pizza box off the counter and was working at getting it open when I went to see what the noise was. She will come over and act like she is going to try to steal spaghetti etc off my plate if she doesn't get a small saucer with a few bites of her own on it. |

Ah, what would I do without my 4 legged mop to catch my spills, drips and crumbs. Plus if she won't eat it I know I had better recheck it. She eats just about anything. Today she was eating those new chocolate vanilla swirl marshmallows. Complained I limited her too two of them. |
