First of all - to all the folks that entered cakes - you guys are amazing....you're doing things I can't even imagine doing.
~~~~~
I actually was really good today Didn't blow through my budget.
I think the thing that I got that I'm most excited about was a half pound of vanilla beans - they're gorgeous Going to have to have some fun with those... |
I went yesterday and it was incredible the amount of talent in that room. I wish I could do some of those cakes. This was my first year to a cake show so it was so MUCH FUN. I took pictures with Norman Davis, Colette Peters and Toba Garret. They were all amazing and so nice. I also spoke to Sandy and she was awesome, sweet and took the time to talk to me for a little bit. That was great. I couldn't take any classes, but next year with Gods will I definitely will.
There were 2 picock wedding cakes, which one was the one that won? |
Very cool, Chunks!
What did you use under the tree trunks to keep them up?
Suggestion --
Woman's Day magazine is always looking for family-friendly cakes like that. Did you take step-by-step photos? If so, you should write up your instructions and submit it with the photos. It would definitely make the front cover, and your cake would get nation-wide exposure!
I enjoyed the show and meeting so many of you. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I took 3 classes and it was so much fun. I met Toba & Collette but unfortunately my camera decided not to want to work but it was great to meet them and they were so nice. Collette's class was great but as you all know the rain made hearing anything hard but she really went on and on to make sure we all understood and answered all kinds of questions. It was also great to meet Sharon-Sugarshack.
All the cakes were beautiful! Congrats to all of you who entered a cake, I think the judges had a very tough job, they were all so wonderful. We have a lot of talented people here and to all the winners-I'm so excited for you. Your cakes are just beautiful.
I kind of busted my budget but think I made some good purchases. I did't see the fondant one though. I couldn't believe all the items that were there. The guy with the cake stands that lit up seemed to always have a lot of people around him. I do wish though that Nick Lodge would have brought at least the cutters to match the dvds that he was selling. I wanted to make sure that I got the correct cutters he was using so guess I'll be ordering from GA. I'm excited to be taking a class with him tomorrow.
Well, I'm looking forward to next year!
Again, congrats to all the winners and Melissa thank you for the slide show. |
The peacock cake that won was the one with the larger peacock with the tail that came most of the way down the cake.
I only saw one set of beads all weekend! Did everyone bring them but just not wear them?
Price, OMGoodness! My husband and I loved the "Old Woman in the Shoe" cake! Awesome. We said to one another that it should win something and sure enough it did! Congratulations!!!!
I will post a picture of my cake later today. I entered the non-tiered Intermediate division. Though I didn't win anything, talking to the judge about my cake and the comments they made had me on cloud nine. You would have thought I won a ribbon. It was the sage colored cake with all the silver dragees with white ribbon roses. |
TheCakeMaker,
I ran into a lot of people with their beads. It was fun meeting all the CCr's. And if you didn't have your beads and saw CCr Aunt Andrea, she had a neck full giving them away. I even had extras for those that saw me and didn't have any. It was a great idea! |
I was in awe of your cake that I took soooo many pictures of it. It was perfect and my girlfriend said "now I would like to know what they could possibly say is wrong with that cake"...lol. I loved it!!! |
I had my kids so I didnt get to shop and go to as many demos as I wanted but I still had a great time. The cakes were AMAZING . Even the beginner division was amazing.
I had a lot of people say "Oh youre the carousel lady, did you make your sons cake" (read earlier posts). It was neat that people remembered me. Looking forward to see the winners and meeting a few others tomorrow.
I remember you...I was telling my girlfriend that that was the cake of a lady from CC who had to make a different cake for her son's birthday and you were right there. I hope all turned out great for his birthday party. All of your animals were great. |
I said the same thing about the beads until I talked to two ladies who had theirs around their wrists. They said their were others and I saw theirs around their bags. I think I was the only crazy one with them around my neck....lol. |
lol. It was choco-pan and that was MY favorite part of the show - discovering choco-pan! I've thought about ordering it a dozen times, but after I tasted it (and played with it) at the show, I bought it immediately! It tastes great and rolls wonderful. My 7 year old dd raved about it, and she hates fondant.
Your cake was great - I loved it and I'm much older than 8. Congrats on your win! |
I wish I would have met more of you. I met Sharon and one other CCer that had her beads. Now hearing some of you that won - I saw you at the awards ceremony. Maybe next year we can pick a time and place to meet up!
