I am shocked and disgusted by several things in this post. To think that someone would allow people to eat a cake that has been licked on by their dog is unbelievable, but I am just as disgusted at the number of people who admit that they allow their pets into their kitchen (even if you lock them out when you are doing a cake)
If I went to a restaurant and there were animals in the kitchen I would leave. Allowing a dog or cat in your kitchen is not sanitary PERIOD !
They lick their privates, some eat their own poop it is disgusting.
Health inpectors may not check often, however, if they came into an actual store with dogs/cats inside the kitchen I feel sure that store would not pass inspection !!! |

My pets are not allowed in the kitchen while ANY food is being prepared. I even scrub my kitchen, top to bottom before I am to use the table, and or counter tops. My two biggest dogs are put into their crates and the little dog and my cat are shut into other rooms. I would never think of letting an animal into my kitchen especially while making cakes!!!!!!! |

I sincerly hope someone tells the bride and groom or someone that attended this wedding what has happened... This is not something that should be kept in the dark, dogs carry many many germs and deseases and it's just unsanitary. |

It never ceases to amaze me how completely lacking in basic sanitary commonsense folks are. Not everyone needs to be ServSafe certified but sheesh.
Cooking disasters happen - you drop something, you leave something out of the fridge that you realize you should have put in....it's a LOT easier to live down saying "you know, I really messed up and I can't serve this" than it is to live down folks getting food poisoning. |

OMG. this is disustuing, i cant believe someone would actualy serve this cake to ppl. HOpefully she did b/c she was panicked and didnt want to say "the dog ate the cake" but really that doesnt make it any better. Its super gross, think about the fecal bacteria that dogs probably carry in their mouths and on their face and now think about that face being rubbed all over the cake, ick!!!! I didnt notice if she had posted where she was located, if she didnt its probably a good thing for her. Beware anytime you eat something someone else makes, you just never know! |

I just want to say that although I think the OP may have made a mistake in judgement with the wedding cake, that the judgements and horrible things being directed at her have gone on for far too long. The points been made and I am certain that she has learned from this mistake as we have all learned from mistakes we have made, and is probably no longer a member anyway after reading the responses, so going on and on does no one any good.
People don't always use the best judgement in situations with much more serious consequences than dog spit on cake.
I truly hope that this thread gets locked. |

THANK YOU to MissT and laurynrn! I first came to this thread thinking there would be a funny story in it, but from the original post being chopped off and THREE PAGES of people flaming the OP, I really do feel sorry for her...
She tried to do something really great for her friends, something terrible happened, she did what she thought was best. Maybe she doesn't live in a place that has a "Corner Wedding Cake Store" where you can just pop in on a Saturday morning and pick up a spare 3-tier cake, I know I don't.
I mean, yeah, it's gross for me to think of someone else's dog licking something I ate, but I know people who will argue that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's and that their dog is part of the family and have no problem sharing a slice of pizza with them... I personally think children are horribly unsanitary (always catching colds and sniffles all over), but people would get all bent out of shape if I suggested that home bakers should have special containers for their children... (ok, I was only kidding to lighten the mood- please don't hurt me!  ) |

Thank you MissT!!! Granted the OP didn't used the best judgement here. But I don't think that a one of us on here uses perfect judgement all the time. A mistake is worth it if a lesson is learned from it.
I shutter at the thought of this poor CC'er being ripped to shreds. She made a mistake and instead of lovingly helping her learn a better way to handle her situation we have blasted her.
Like I said none of us fellow CC'ers are perfect. But can I just challenge us all to support each other a little more and not run each other in the ground when we mess up? |

Poor OP, I really hope she learned to be more careful with her food products for her own good and I hope she doesn't quit CC.
It drives me INSANE when people think a dog's mouth is cleaner than an average clean person.
A test was done on TV...can't remember the channel...and of course a dog's mouth has WAY more bacterial than humans'.
Don't get me wrong...I love animals and grew up with cats that I loved with passion and would kill anybody that would hurt them BUT I understand they carry all sort of parasites.
I mean...they clean they 'intimate areas' with their tongues!!! ewww...think about it. |

Dude, who cares if a dog's mouth is cleaner than a humans or not! It would be just as disgusting if a human licked a quarter of the cake and it was still served to the guests. I don't know about you, but I don't want anybody else's saliva (whether animal or human) on my food. It's gross.
Also, yes, kids do carry germs often. Which is exactly one of the reasons why they aren't allowed in the kitchen when I'm baking or decorating. When someone puts their trust in you, then do your best to deserve it. |
