I made the white velvet cake from the "Cake Bible" for a friends birthday and had to carve it out to look like a wrench because he is a mechanic. Anyway, I had some cake and frosting left over so I made some cake balls and dipped them in a combo of semi-sweet chocolate and white chocolate.
I took them to my second job, which is at Texas Roadhouse. The Kitchen Manager tried one, his exact words were "this is banging"! He said that I have to know the recipe. I told him it was nothing but cake, frosting and dipping chocolate, he was very surprised. I told him as long as you have a cake and frosting that taste good, your Cake Balls will always be Wonderful!
He kinda inflated my ego a tad.

I'm planning on making some this weekend, for the first time. So you just used icing?? NO coffee creamer or liquid of any kind?? I'm trying to figure out which way I should make them! |

Either way (icing or creamer) will work. It's just a substance to glue it all together that you need so whatever you choose to use will be fine. |

I did not add any additional flavor (coffee creamer) or anything to mine. In my opinion, you don't need anything if your cake and frosting are good. The adding of flavors are good for a different taste, if you would like.

Connie, Connie Connie..ya had to share your recipe with the kitchen manager..lol...you should've told him it was an ancient __________secret..and if you told him you'd have to kill him..hahaha
THe basic recipe is just...cake..a little icing or frosting..you dont even have to dip them...roll them in some cocoa powder and you're good to go.
all the other bells and whisltes just add more options...
These use to be called RUM BALLS in ancient times..hahaha...the local bakeries would gather all the weekly cake scraps and trow them into the mixer add a little rum to wet them an hold them together and some would make these suckers as BIG as a baby's fist!
They are a GREAT way to increase interest in your products!! I plan to send out bunches of these during Christmas week for any cake that I have to carve out. |

I don't know. Cake balls have effectively taken over CC so maybe Texas Roadhouse really is next! |

I just tried making these and what a hit. The ones I added almond extract to are our favorites so far. I also made some from leftover spice cake and added rum. I can't believe I used to throw scraps away. Never again. Thanks Cake Central!!!! |

Great job on the cake balls connie! (no if only you can con the roadhouse into letting you place boxes filled with dozens of them to sell you'll be all set----or even try getting them placed on the dessert menue ) Just think of all the possibilities! |
