I got married this past March in Hawaii and had my reception back home in Virginia in May, so I wanted my cake to be kinda tropical but elegant.

Kimskakes23336 ~ I got married in Hawaii also - in May on the beach at Kapalua Bay. We had an at-home reception as well.

My cake was a 4 tier with a dummy for the bottom and top tier. Our baker gave us the top tier already wrapped and boxed to be put in the freezer. That way we didn't have to worry about someone being responsible for getting the top tier to us after the reception.

It was white cake with one layer strawberry cream filling and the other layer key lime cream filling with cream cheese icing. It was so delicious!!

There were various words that reminded us of marriage and love piped on the side with purple orchids and white roses.

Any DFW brides here? I wouldn't hesitate to recommend my baker...The Cake Guys.

Anyway, I have no individual pics of my cake here at work, but you can view them here http://biancaandjerryswedding......m/action/. This is actually all of my wedding pics from HI and home...sorry about that. You can click on "Reception" and use the drop down to view pics 121-132. That is where the cake is.[/code]

Am I the only one who didn't have a cake? I am so into elaborate weddings for other people, but not for me. My husband and I lived in Hawaii when we got married, so we picked our own maile for his lei the morning of and I threw on a pretty sun dress I had for a year or so. It was actually black with purple orchids on it. We met the preacher down at Poipu beach (on the island of Kauai) at sunset, I kicked off my sandals, picked the spot, then we said "I do". We had a beer in the parking lot with our friends that were there then went down to a place called Keoki's Paradise for hula pie. NO CAKE for me. It was the best wedding ever! We paid the preacher, liscense, and rings. That's it, didn't send out invitations so no family either. Yes, we love our families haha, just that our wedding was for me and my hubby. Would not change a thing. btw, the hula pie is awsome, it's a huge piece of macadamia ice cream cut into a wedge and covered in chocolate.

GolfAddict ~ Thank you for the comment. We were married on Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai.

Your wedding pictures are gorgeous. We had a photographer as part of our "package" and she was awful. The only thing that made our wedding photo's nice was the scenery. Luckily I had a phonomenal local photographer for the reception.

GolfAddict - I LOVE your cake! The words on the sides make the cake so elegant and yet so simple. I love it.

I agree it was very difficult to find the "right" wedding cake. My cake was made by a CC member - she told me to come to Cake Central and look at all of the wedding cakes. Between the 2 of us we took about 20 different photos and came up with this. NEWTODECORATING did an amazing job. Also I had a hard time finding a cake topper that I loved and wanted something that I could use again. My cake topper is actually a Christmas Tree Topper - so every year at Christmas time I am able to pull the topper out of storage and have wonder memories. Best Wishes to you!!

Hanalei Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's on the north shore of the island of Kaua'i. Anyone who gets the chance, needs to go there. I bet you got some beatiful photos, esp. at sunset. We used to go up there all the time just to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Aloha,
Amy

I got married this past December and was nuts enough to do my own wedding cake. Finished it at 12 midnight on the day of the wedding! It leans a little, but boy did it taste good! My guests ate so much, there was hardly any left to save!!!

Thanks! My other idea was to have different verses from our wedding song on it. But we hadn't finalized our wedding song by the time I had to let the baker know exactly what I wanted on it.

LOVE THAT!! So many of our friends told us that their wedding was just a show for their guests. That's why we opted to go to HI - married on the beach barefoot and went to a luau for our wedding dinner, which is so our style. None of our family was there either. Not that we didn't want them there, but only 1 person, my dad, could actually afford to go. It just seemed like a HUGE burden to have to save the money to go. They were upset at first, but got over it. We also taped the wedding and showed it at the reception, so everybody felt like they were a part of it.

I honestly don't remember what my cake looked like. 43 years ago on the 5th of September, so I can claim old age. I do remember it was all white and I had to wait to pick it up because they were not finished with it. We put a three tier stacked cake in the back of Dad's station wagon and it made it intact to the reception.
DD's was cream, hexagon shaped with scrolls on the side and bridges to side cakes with small stained glass angels on the bridges. A Christmas wedding, too.
I came to CC to get ideas for another wedding cake. My son is getting married in November and I promised him my swan song. Three stacked tiers with lots of tiny flowers is what his bride has chosen. Wish me luck. I have really learned a lot here. Thanks everyone.

Us too!!! We had our three adult children and their significant others with us and that was it. We also went to a luau as an after wedding dinner. Just us and our kids. But my family was big on doing something for them so we had a local reception after we got back. How funny that our Hawaiian weddings and plans were so similar Laughing

I got married 2.5 years ago. We had only 3 weeks to prepare for it! Our wedding cake was purchased from a local bakeshop. I believe it cost around $80. At that time, I thought it was the most prettiest cake I've ever seen. Having known what I know now, my gauge of pretty is something else Laughing BUT!!... It was the most delicious white cake I've ever had!! Here's a pic of it.

I love reading about everyone's wedding cake and day! Weddings are soo great!

I really wasn't into cake decorating when I got married almost 6 years ago. But, I knew I wanted Star Gazer Lilies. I had them everywhere! And we were only doing a 40 person wedding! I only had a 2 tier cake covered in buttercream and then white chocolate shavings covering both layers. I think I had columns?? Rolling Eyes Laughing Then fresh Star Gazers on the top of both tiers. What was funny about my cake is that I THOUGHT it was going to be the only one! Twisted Evil (so yeah, I guess I was a little bit of a bridezilla Rolling Eyes ) My husband was in the Army at the time in Korea and he had told his mom he wanted a mango cake. Well, he's Filipino and I thought he wanted like a traditional style look like an pineapple upside down cake!? Twisted Evil She brought in this gaudy white bc with green and blue swags and frills with a stupid little ribbon (actual party ribbon) topper! Mad I was really mad and was for about 2 years after that! BUT! Now that I am a decorator I can look at it as if that was the groom's cake. Both tasted good! But, I don't remember what flavor mine was! Laughing

Mine was 15 years ago. My cake was simple. Round, stacked, 3 small layers, ivory buttercream with dots on one layer and swirls on the others. But oh boy, did it taste fantastic. It was called Southern Pecan. I'd give almost anything to get that recipe.

And the grooms cake was the stuff of legends. It was double frosted with fudge and buttercream - had chocolate curls the size of slave bracelets and chocolate dipped strawberries.

Oh I wish I could remember what my cake looked like before it sank. I know it was basketweave with wilk flowers. I believe it was on pillars but it didn't hold up to the heat(someone forgot to turn the AC on in late July) so by the time of the reception it was a stacked 2 tier with one to the side (if I remember right.) I think it was my moms first wedding cake.

I didn't even get a chance to taste it until after the reception and even then it was literally a bite.

But that was 9 years ago. We were able to have our whole wedding for about 2000.00. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

But I may be willing to do it again(with the same DH) Just to be able to have the cake.

Congratulations! Septmeber is a wonderful time to get married!

I got married 3 years ago in September. I wasn't doing cake decorating yet, but my Mom had done it years before so it was an interest of mine. That's why I had something really great for our wedding cake. Our wedding cake was beautiful- and delicious! The bottom tier was carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, the middle layer lemon with a raspberry filling and the top was carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. It had beautiful fondant lace and white gumpaste flowers that matched my bouquet, roses, lily, freesia and green ivy. The topper was a pair of porcelain doves I found years before but hadn't bought- found them on ebay! We loved our cake and even drove 4 hours to pick up our 1st anniversary tier because she said to enjoy the one we had and she'd bake a new 6" tier for $7 for our anniversary (except we couldn't decide which flavor so we got a sheet cake of carrot and a remake of our lemon/raspberry top tier) Yum yum!
