Hi Everybody! Happy Friday!
I have a wedding cake due next Saturday. They want white buttercream with red roses. I thought I would make my roses and freeze them to get a jump on things. How do I get my icing really red, like American Beauty Rose Red? I made icing and used 2 jars Red Red, and it still looks kind of pink/orange. I figured I would wait a couple of hours to see if it darkens up.
You are all so helpful, can you share a secret, or tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you very much, any help is welcome and appreciated!

Well I just keep mixing till its red but if you said you put 2 jars of Red Red in it then I wouldnt put anymore. I have also heard of just letting it sit for a couple of hours and it should darken up maybe you could add a little of a darker color? |

Thank you Finnox, do you think bergundy would be a good choice for a darker color? |

This is off topic but are your roses buttercream? If so I don't know if you should freeze them, I froze buttercream roses once and when they defrosted, the condensation made them "melt"... I put them in an airtight container and it still heppened. |

OMG! I didn't even think of that! It's a good thing I had problems with the color, maybe a blessing in diguise. So much for getting a jump start on my roses!
Thank you very much for the info! It probably saved me alot of frustration and time! |

I am currently doing a wedding cake and doing lots of roses. I started doing them on Tuesday. I put them in the firdge in an airtight container they are fine.
I tried making red once and it tasted horrible. I don't know if your color is no flavor but be sure to taste it if it not. |

Maybe add some coco to make it darker.
The roses will be fine in the fridge. |

Thank you Pinknlee, and Wendyb! There is no bad taste from the gel color. I am so happy to know I can put the roses in the fridge!
Pinknlee, please post a picture of your cake, I would love to see your roses!
Would cocoa change the taste of my frosting?
