I'm working on baby blocks for my sister-in-laws baby shower cake. The baby blocks are made out of gumpaste, they are 3"x3" the instructions say after they are dry to "glue" them together with gumpaste glue. Is that just thinned out royal icing? Or what is it?

I think you can use a little meringue powder mixed with water- 1 T each- for the glue. HTH!
You can also break up some of your gumpaste into a little dish and cover it with boiling water. Stir it until it dissolves and let it cool. If it is too thick just add some cold water to get the consistency you want. This will give you a good strong glue.
i've done pieces of gumpaste in some water like aine2 suggested to glue gumpaste petals for roses and i'm told its the best glue for gumpaste. I used a brush to paint on the glue.

I use Tylose (CMC) in water. It's about 1/8 tsp. of Tylose to 2 Tbsp. water. I start with hot water, add the Tylose, and then let it sit for awhile before mixing. It's fairly thick, but it holds quickly and well. It will not accept color after it dries though, so be sure use a very small amount and to not let it ooze out.

My gumpaste teacher taught me to use Gum Arabic (a powder that I get at my local cake supply store. Mine is made by CK Products ... product # 76-3503) I paid $4 for 2.8 oz. (79.4g) at the store (retail).
I use tablespoons to measure.
Formula is: 3 parts water ~ 1 part Gum Arabic
I first put the water in a screw top small glass container. Then add the gum arabic. I put saran wrap over opening and screw on lid. Shake vigorously. I use a blunt paint brush to smash couple of little globs that remain in solution. Shake again.
I use a syringe (without needle, of course) to fill an old, clean, nail polish bottle. This works great because you already have the brush and it doesn't spill, or evaporate easily. I store both containers in fridge. Uncontaminated gum glue lasts for quite a while in fridge.
After I have completed my project, I can throw out the contaimanated solution and refill, from my extra, whenever I start a new project. It keeps for a long time and I don't have to worry if my customers want to eat the item.... no raw eggwhites used. It's worked for me for the last 15 years. HTH

Im going to be doing a shoe this weekend. can I use fondant insted of gum pastse?
or is that the same thing?
