Might be long
I went to a meeting today with my daughter and was given a big oportunity. A consultation co. has asked me to take over the cake decorating part of thier business under there name and take over there corporate accounts. I will be working with them and we are going to try and mess or co names together. Only thing I will be doing 7 wedding cakes per weekend plus my business that I already have I do about 2-3 wedding cakes per weekend plus all occassion. Well I kind of thought that I would give my daughter the all occassion part and cookies since she is the one that does the cookies. We left the meeting with orders and 162 cookies to decorate by Fri. I am going to have to expand and build a kithen instead of renting the church kitchen have already talked with a friend that has a business and is giving me his back room with a seperate enterence so thats not a problem. Is this too much and I will have to work out a business plan to see if this will work. So much to think about do I need staff or contract out I can't imagine all those cake on a weekend. I worked for a production bakery decorating for 6 years so I know what its like to do all thoes cakes. Delivers will be an 1 hr plus drive to get them there. What to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow-- what a great opportunity, but i think in order for you to do all those cakes, you will definitly have to hire out. but i think it is a great great opportunity and i would probably go for it.

I would definitely think you would need to get a helper.....maybe to bake cakes, make icing, wash dishes, etc & maybe even deliver for you. That way you can concentrate on the decorating aspect of it. I think its doable...it just requires alot of organization and multitasking.

You are brave to even think about doing 10 wedding cakes in a weekend, umm maybe every weekend. And yes, you will need a helper, maybe 2 or 3. You sure have your work cut out for you! I wish you every success!

Wow....that's great. I know I could only do 1 or 2 wedding cakes in a weekend so it looks like you may need to hire some help.

Up to 10 wedding cakes per weekend.....I wish I had 1. Smile

Congratulations and I hope everything works out for you!

Wow, I thought this other business had a kitchen you would be using. I wouldn't do it, or at least not immediately. You may not be able to deliver on those quantities and do the quality you would like. Good help is hard to find. Your expenses and rent could be more than you expect. You'll probably need a walk in cooler.

It would also be a good idea to look at their books to make sure the figures they told you are correct.

What is a consultation company? Sounds like it could be someone who likes to make money while someone else slaves away at the oven, braves the traffic, and sweats about all the other details.

Sorry to be negative. Seems like you have a pretty good idea about a business plan, and commercial production. But that the extra income could be hard earned at the expense of family time or your health. I don't know how there would be enough time in a week for 2 people to conduct tastings, bake, mix icings, order or shop for supplies, decorate and deliver all those cakes, not even counting the cookies, celebration cakes, etc.

Why are they giving up this business? Look closely at the details.

Maybe it's the opportunity that's right for you and you are right for it. Just be sure there are enough advantages in your favor. Good luck! It's great to receive such a compliment of your talents!
