What size/sizes are the best to go with? I would like to get pans that I can than go and buy cake boards and boxes easily in that size. I see that Magic Line comes in
9X13
10X15
12X16
12X18
16X24, I don't plain on getting this one, It's too big for my oven.

The one I have now (Wilton, that I don't like) is 11X15, it's not even one of the sizes above. I'm so confused now. icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't like my Wilton sheet pan mostly because the sides of the cake don't come out straight and the corners, well I don't get corners, LOL. The corners are VERY rounded.

That happens to me with Wilton pans also. Not a huge fan, but my Magic Line I really like!

I would suggest getting a 9x13 (quarter sheet) and a 12x18 (half sheet). That is what I use and I don't have a problem finding boxes in that size.

Next time you go to the place where you purchase your items (boards and boxes) I would take a look at the sizes that they carry, if you want to be extra careful.

Thank you, I'm trying to stop buying my boxes locally a few at a time and start buying in bulk online (I just can't find room to store them yet icon_rolleyes.gif )

Thanks again thumbs_up.gif

I have 11x15; 12x18; 14x22. I don't make anything smaller than 11x15 in sheet cakes. If I was to start over, I'd get all Magic Line, but I've no complaints with my Wilton sheet pans.

So, what is the correct size for sheet cakes? I am confussed!!

Is a quarter sheet 9 x 13 or 11 x 15?

If a full sheet is 18 x 24 then it makes sesne to me that a half sheet would be 18 x 12, making a quarter sheet a 9 x 12.

Is this correct?

I refuse to use those terms...most people just use the "lingo" without knowing what they're talking about. A typical conversation is "How much is your half sheet cake? How many does that serve?" Shouldn't you know how any it serves before you ask for a specific size?????

So when they ask for the price of a half or quarter sheet, I ask them "how many do you need it to serve?" then *I* tell *them* what size they need.

Here are links to a couple of my posts on sizes and servings:

Thanks!!......I like you're approach about telling people what size cake they need instead of them trying to tell you.

great advice!!

ifyou want to buy boxes and boards other the wiltons then they will be sized for 8x12, 12x16 and 24x16 cakes, what bakeries make. the 9x13 and 12x18 sizes are what wilton makes and their boards and boxes fit these cakes.

JMO Wilton boxes are flimsy and more expensive than what I get at our local paper supply shop. I bought one once because Hobby Lobby was on my way home and I didn't want to go out of my way. Big mistake I almost dropped the cake because the box almost collapsed. My paper supply house has the boards and boxes for all sheet sizes including the largest 17x24.

For starting out I would get the 12x18 This way you can always cut it down to the smaller size. I also bake this one for my stacked cakes then cut stack and carve as needed. But I have also baked this one sheet cake and made a double layer 8" square cake out of it b/c I didn't have the 8" square pans. It works well for me right now since I don't have the money to invest in all the sizes I want.
