This past weekend I had the treat of taking my first Nicolas Lodge class last Saturday - Monday.... It was worth the money I spent by the first 15 minutes of him teaching. There were students from all levels and from all over the world! He taught us at least 20 diffent derocating techniques that can be used on fondant and buttercream cakes.
If he saw you struggling he at once came over to help, he was funny, patience and willing to answer any question you had. Once you enter the doors you were at ease. Nick's Training Coordinator Scott, made sure we didn't need anything but paper and pen even the supplies for class was provided! We had light muffins, juice and coffee for breakfast, lunch and a cookie break. Let me tell ya that man can COOK!!!! I even had a chance to meet some Cake Central folks (HI Gingerela!!!!)
I highly recommend saving up the money and investing in a class with him! Bring some extra for shopping too! I was the last student out the door with a tear in my eye and a big hug from Nick! I'll try to attach some pictures.... |

*jealous sigh*
Your cake is beautiful! All the different decorations are so cool! Where did you take the class? I would LOVE to take a class from him. I know he teaches classes once in awhile at Wilton but I wondered if you took a class that he had at his own place. It would take be forever to save up but it definitely looks worth it!

I took the class in metro Atlanta at his school in Norcross GA. I figured if I could drive all the way to Texas from Georgia surely I can spend the money to take his class. So when I got wedding cake deposits I put then up for classes. |

Oh OH OH I love that cake. I love the little pink rose buds with the lace. Oh I would die to learn how to do that. I am waking the Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste class this coming week. I'm sure it's nothing compared to Nick's class. I live in Boston and would like to find out if someone around here could teach me what Nick does. Does anyone know??????????? |

Hey Meeka! Glad to see you here!
What an awesome experience this was! I can't imagine what the five day gumpaste is like! I am still reeling from the class. I had a birthday cake due this weekend and I put many of my Nick Lodge lessons to work!
I highly recommend this Fondant class. For $375 - three FULL days, I'd say it's a bargain. He is really professional, fast, but patient, and very helpful. The entire process is well orchestrated and organized.
I enjoyed picking his brain about all kinds of other cake decorating things. He even advised me on a future wedding cake I have to do. Oh, and as an added bonus, he also gave us recipes, cake serving charts with all kinds of other information (like cake diameters in inches!) to make the decorating process easier. He talked about pricing, tastings, etc. All in all, I thought the cost of the class was cheap for what we got.
And...the items in his store are far cheaper than most places. I bought some things that were half price compared to the online store I'd been buying from.
I traveled from Maryland, so my cost for this class was alot higher than the local folks, but I'm already saving for the next trip. |
