I believe people use piping gel for the water. I use a combination of crushed Nilla wafers (put them in a ziplock bag and crush away - gets your aggressions out!) and light brown sugar for sand, looks great! Frost w/buttercream where you want the sand and then sprinkle it on top of the buttercream, or gently push onto sides if that's where it's going. Good luck! |

as KateWatson said --
for the water -- piping gel tint it a very pale blue. it will also help if you ice the moat in pale blue as well.
fill the moat w/ the piping gel and then push the gummy fish into it and smooth over.
and may recipe for sand:
2 parts vanilla wafers
2 parts graham crackers
1 part dark brown sugar
crush wafers and crackers -- then blend all 3 ingredients -- gives 3 distinct shades to the sand and not super sticky due to low amount of sugar -- yet tastes really yummy |

hmmmm
how big of a moat are you making???
you'll need what you need to fill it.
depending upon who many fish are going of a dip -- could be part of one container, a full container or even more!
yes, just tint it --- and since it keeps a long time -- any leftovers could be use as later (more water or tint deeper color and use for writing, etc.) |

I just did one like this last weekend. check my photos
i used blue tinted buttercream as it was for 7 year olds and the piping gel tasted nasty to me so I can imagine what the 7 year olds would say!! and the sand is nilla wafers, cinnamon grahm crackers, and sugar in the raw. I put the cookies in a ziplock and whacked on it until I felt better
I did also throw it in my food prcessor 'cause it wasn't as fine as I wanted. I did end up with almost a gallon sized ziplock full of leftover sand
good luck with it!

I also did one and put the blue buttercream under the piping gel.
I just used cinnamon, sugar, and plain bread crumbs for my sand. It was very tasty!
Good luck! Be sure to post a pic when you are finished! |

I've done this a few times and it works GREAT!! piping gell and either brown sugar or graham cracker crumbs for sand...
The first below is a beach with both and gummy sharks and fish. The second has a lake of piping gell with graham cracker crumbs as the sand with gold fish crackers.
Good luck.

What did you use to make the palm trees and the little bonfire? They look like pretzels...but I can't tell what else.
Thanks. |
