Try a search on this site for "3D car cakes". Maybe you can pm one of the makers of the cakes and ask for some tips. |

They make a Nascar pan that you can cut the front down a bit to make it look more like the car you have. I bought mine at [blocked].com. I did my fin by using a piece of gumpast and letting it dry. I had toothpicks inserted in it to make it stay in the cake better. The wheels are black balls that you flatten out and then make your cuts in them to resemble tire tread. The you can make your white discs and color them silver and insert them. I let mine dry atleast a week before doing the cake.
I also bought edible lacquer and sprayed it several times to give it a glossy look, especially on the windows.
You can check out my Jeff Gordon cake in my pics. If you need anything else, let me know. |

HI,
good luckmaking this cake...it is frustrating and scary now...but when you will make it -I'm sure it will be a very proud and rewarding addition to your portfolio.
take a deep breath and relax...you can do it.Try making the rear wing spoiler from gumpaste a couple of days in advance.
Make sheet cakes.fill with a thin layer of filling(prefer buttercream if you are a beginner)stack 'em as tall and you would like the car to be(2 layers or 3)...chill...
then start carving the shape...it helps if you print the picture in a bigger size...start by eyeballing where the windshield.bumper, windows, spoiler, trunk, wheels etc are gonna be...and then start from either the front or the trunk...carve in little amounts...you wouldn't wanna carve too much portion of the cake, where you can't go back and fix it...
once the car shape is all carved out...brush the crumbs off the cake...and crumb coat the car...chill and then ice it smooth....then start covering the cake with fondant. one part of the car at a time...
you can make the silver paint by mixing silver luster dust with lemon extract.
It is not an impossible cake...all it takes is patience and a lot of time and a little bit of planning.
stay cool ..you can do it!!! dont forget to send me pictures of the cake.
lemme know if you need any help. |

This car is boxy in style so it should be easy . make the wing out of gum paste or fondant first and let dry . bake a 12 x18 sheet cut into three sections fill and Freeze. Print a side picture of the car when the cake is frozen you will need either a sharp knive or electric knife. cut out the Basic shape of the car go back with a spoon and hollow out were the wheel wells are, then take attention to the picture everywere there is a dark shadow take a potatoe peeler to and carve out the shadow for your detail . For the windows use black fondant and inlay the windows I use rectangle cookie cutters or just make a template out of a cereal box and carve out. Wheels you can do anything for cartoony cakes i use oreos and chocolate doughnuts if your looking for a professional look use fondant and texture with a knife or mold. Sorry i do not have any pictures I have one my daughter made shes 10 have faith go slow and think about hte fondant like play dough it helps. and remember if you mess up embelish over it no one will notice |

It is acctually a lot easier then you think. start with 3 9x 13 cakes filled but not frasoed and carve out the cake if you are unsure of how to carve print out the side view of the cake and place this next to the cake and use it as a guide. the fondant will lay on the cak just fine if you need places wear you might hace excess fondant the tires are a good place because you are going to have to make tires so it will hide the overlap. make the tail out of fodant anf gum past- try to make it 1 day ahrad of time and it will harden If you have any question let me know I hope this helps |
