I used it for the first time last night and omg I hate it.
a) it taste gross
b) it is horrible to work with
c) did I say it tastes gross .
I used it in wilton class and for the life of me I cannot see why people would want to eat that sh*t. It would be like chewing playdo.

it depends what type of fondant you're using... try Marshmallow Fondant (the recipe is on this site). It's sooo much tastier! and not too difficult to make. |

What kind of fondant did you use? I don't like the taste of the Wilton brand. I like the marshmallow fondant recipe on this site. I used it for the first time this weekend. It taste 1000% better and it is a lot less expensive! I even flavored the stuff from wilton and it still tasted bad. The texture thing is a bit harder to get over though! |

Ok, I have just one thing to say to you..............back away from the Wilton fondant, it's not good. Try Fondx or Bakels. Both of these taste heaps better and are great to work with. Wilton is great to practice with but I've been told its like chewing on a candle.
Fondant is also something that you may need to practice with before you get it just right, it can be tricky sometimes, but it looks so pretty, keep practicing, you'll get the hang of it |

I agree, I used to think that Fondant was yucky, but then made the marshmallow fondant off this isite and it is really good! I highly recommend you reconsider and try this one. |

I just made some of the Alternate MMF receipe from this site and like it even better.Give it a try and i think you will change your mind. Good luck in class. |

The Wilton Fondant really taste bad. I use the Satin Ice one. It has a much better taste. I me and and a few others that have tried it. It taste like cotton candy. So much better than Wilton. Give Satin Ice a try. |

I would have to say...i started out disliking fondant immensley....however....there are so many things u can do with it, figure modeling, draping etc....i think the key is just finding a recipe that you like...and going from there...

Has anyone tried Chocolate Plastic? It's perfect!!! The only thing is, you have to use at least 2 to 3 batches to cover a cake. At least 2 batches to cover a 9" round. Only because it's very, very and I mean very stretchy. You would have to make it a little thicker than you normally would use with fondant or MMF. It taste wonderful!!
It's hard to work with.. But if your just using accents. Like cirlces, hearts or lines to add to cake.. This would be perfect.. Afer you roll it out, you can let it sit for about 10 mins. then press your cutter in it.. Note: when you pick it up you cant leave it in your hand to long, it will melt right in your hand. Other than that it's great!!! It isnt very white, but you can add other colors to it and it will work just fine.. |

I agree with everuone else re: wilton fondant. It's just horrible. You would think such a company would try to improve it. Most people starting out probably use that brand before anything else because it's in all the craft stores.
SatinIce is fantastic....but once you make MMF, you'll probably stick to it. |

there are definitely MUCH better tasting things out there - Wilton fondant IS play-doh - just use it for practice or for things that are not meant to be eaten! Maybe that's their purpose behind it, huh? It's not MEANT to be eaten???? They just forgot to tell us that.....
Anyway, there are a bunch of recipes on this site - you can try the marshmellow fondant (MMF), rolled buttercream, Toba Garrett's fondant recipe, and many more recipes exist - a lot of different cake decorators have come up with their own. There are also several brands to just buy out there - I've heard of Bakel's, Chocopan, Satin Ice, Penitice (sp?), Fondx, and several others. I've recently had Chocopan recommended to me and I think I may try that next. I've had Satin Ice recommended to me again although the first time I tried it I thought it smelled like play-doh and I wasn't too keen on the taste.
There's also two books sold here on CC about rolled fondant or rolled icings that have some recipes in them that I've tried- they TASTE good - but haven't found them easy to work with just yet - it is definitely a skill you have to practice quite a bit to get right! I'm still not quite there yet but I'm working on it!
Don't give up just yet! I haven't! |

I agree, Wilton's fondant is horrible. When I was first using fondant that's what I used and my husband and his friends called it "plasticake" Now I make the MMF, it tastes much better, and is inexpensive to make. I don't make enough cakes to justify buying pre-made fondant, but if I did, I would probably use SatinIce. I
ve heard that is really good. |

I used to hate fondant - just never seemed like "food" to me. Now I am used to it...and so many brides like it and want it that you just need to get over it. Make or buy the best tasting fondant you can (MMF or Satin Ice, respectively).
It doesn't mean you have to eat it yourself... |
