so true, KakesandKids.
thankfully, my state is easy to get licensed...but even so...
--must be inspected.
--need liability insurance (not a must, but stupid not to have and not all that expensive -- mine is under $50/yr)
--must have all necessary zoning permits and business licenses.
--HIGHLY recommended to also get a food handlers certification from local health dept. and for extra measure "ServSafe" certification to show you know proper sanitation and food handling regulations
it's NOT worth the risk not to do it right -- just one disgruntled customer -- or worse one angling for a quick buck (think of the case like this you've heard on the news) -- and everything could be gone.
Doug, Thank you for all the great information.
Do you have an idea of the overall cost of the above info??
Do you bake in the same kitchen as your everyday meals?
TIA
inspection ... free
insurance... as above $50-75 range
liscence...$25
register bus... city - $14
register assumed name - $14
state tax ID - free
county health card - $55 (cost of class and exam)
servsafe - $37 (cost of exam, extension of county card class)
so (doing the math) that's almost $200.
NOTE: your amount could be VERY different depending upon where you live. -- these are for my city/county in NC
and then need business cards and web site and....
so not counting any pans, tips, decorating equip...looking at up to $400 or so to start depending upon deal you get on website and cards.

Thank you Doug.
Last question...
Who do you contact to get all those certification cards?
and I guess it's the city for the licenses, right?

it is under construction.... (and I won't show it until I won't blush!)
still trying to learn how to custom build a site....hate the supplied templates from hosting service.

zoning board/city hall for biz license and reg.
county clerk for assumed name
state tax dept for tax ID
food handlers certif: look for course offered by local community or tech college. they run here almost every month. some are one day affairs, others multiple weeks. (county health dept. should be able to refer you to course or may even offer it)
