I never cover cardboards. Cakes, once they are out of the freezer and decorated do not go into refrigeration. But I use SPS, so there's a plastic plate under every cardboard.

I have also made the pecan cake from a cake mix from Cake Central recipe section and it was the very best pecan cake I have ever had! I am picky too when it comes to my cakes. HTH
