also depends on local laws. Here in Australia in some states you are "not allowed" to insert wire into a cake even if its only part way to hold up a flower.

For future use you may like to dry some of the fondants that are made to cope with refrigeration like fondx.... its also very yummy.

In the ethnic section of your store your should find a product called Dulce de Leche by Nestle. It is very close. I use it all the time!
