I hadn’t originally planned to freehand the maple leaf but ended up having to do so…it came out alright but if Plan A had worked, I feel it would have looked better…lol. This was a cake that I made for some of our newest citizens.

This Canada Day cake has a fondant overlay of the Canadian flag and Gum Paste trilliums (The Capital of Canada is in Ottawa, Ontario – the trillium is the provincial flower of Ontario) It also has royal icing roses.

I made this cake at work (I’m the Baker at a local Farm Market). It was sliced and handed out to the customers on July 1st, which is our Canada Day. It is two 9×13 citrus pound cakes, glued together with buttercream icing.
