Whew!!! So glad this is done and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. My best friend asked me to make a cake for her father-in-law’s Birthday. He’s a hunter so we worked out an outdoors theme. I really did things differently with this one but it was a great learning experience. I have to thank my husband for helping me carve the cake, make the rifle, and sculpt the big mouth bass. Other than the grass, all the decorations are fondant/gum paste. The fishing pole and the cat tails are toothpicks.
Square cakes cut in half diagonally, placed on end, covered in fondant. The flames are made from crushed cinnamon and butterscotch candies, melted on crumpled (buttered) foil in the oven and then swirled.
This one was really fun to make! Chocolate cake with vanilla/almond buttercream. Fondant and graham cracker tent. Fondant sleeping bag and pillow. Ice cream cone and pretzel trees, goober rocks, pretzel logs. Jellybean bugs. Thanks to all the CCers who posted their camping cakes. They gave me great ideas! TFL
10×10″ Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting and decorated with fondant
This was made for a little boy’s love of fishing with his cousin. All figures and accents were made of gumpaste. This one was fun to do because the little boys loved to see themselves in sugar form TFL!
Just a practice cake. We went camping and friends requested I do a cake for desert so I thought I would play around. 6″ 2-layer yellow cake w/ B/C frosting. Campfire “logs” are out of shaved chocolate.
Fondant/gumpaste cupcake toppers. Cupcakes are mint brownies frosted with chocolate ganache.
I had another request for a hunting and fishing cake. The cakes are 6″ and 10″ and iced in buttercream. The deer, hunter, tent and camper are all made from fondant. The tree is a cone of fondant and then covered in butter cream using a leaf tip.
I made this cake for my Dad’s Birthday.
Finally a cake that is my own original idea (I think? : ) All buttercream with sugar cone trees and fondant covered camper, royal sticks in campfire and gel river. This was for a friend’s husband. Her kids asked that I add the family dog since he always went on camping trips.
This cake goes with the camping cupcakes. Cake is chocolate chip pound cake with chocolate ganache filling.
I made this camping scene cake for a double birthday party. The kids loved that it was personalized and completely edible! All the pieces are made with fondant and supported internally by dry spaghetti noodles. The green iciing is buttercream and I used candy melts for the green trees and the flames in the fire pit.
This was a bday cake for a buddy I always go camping with. Every time we camp by the river, those pesky raccoons always keep us up all night and get into all of our stuff. Fondant tent, animals, cooler, fire ring, rocks, trees are sugar cones with buttercream, logs are pretzels, and the axe is fake. Everything else is buttercream, and I had chocolate cake with raspberry/buttercream filling.
I made this cake for my daughter’s camping-themed birthday party. BC, with fondant tent and rocks for fire. Pretzels and mini marshmallows on the fire because we made s’mores. Logs are piroulline cookies dipped in chocolate.
These chocolate cupcakes are iced in BC. I used MMF for the tents and simple stick pretzels for the camp fire logs. Red striping on a bag filled with orange BC turned out the fire.
a cake for a lady has retired, who enjoys camping, bingo and reading, the little fire camp was a LED light, it illuminatesThe table was made out of popsicle sticks
This cake was made for my son’s cub scout troop. I melted red, yellow, and orange jolly ranchers on a cookie sheet. After they cooled, I broke the candy apart to make the ‘flames’. There is a battery-powered flashlight in the middle. The toasted marshmallows were my son’s idea!
Used a jello mold pan for center fire. Loaf pans for fire logs. Melted cinnamon and butterscotch hard candies in the oven for flames. Broke into pieces after cooled. Placed all atop a large sheet cake pan. Used real roasted marshmallows on pretzel sticks. All Buttercream icing.
This is a gumpaste camper, gumpaste kids. Royal icing pine trees, anda gel river. Cake is white chocolate.
This is a cake I made for my parent’s 40th anniversary. This cake is special because they bought this truck and camper right after they got married and they still have it. Whenever anyone teases my dad about still owning them he always says “Well, I still have the same wife too.” That truck and camper really symbolize their marriage to me. The figures are made with modeling chocolate and the truck and camper is all cake. The grass is dyed coconut.
This is my version of a similar cake I found on the web. It won me a blue ribbon at the fair last year.
Campers feet sticking out of blanket and tent. Hiking boots, fire and trees also here.
