Wedgwood Inspiration By sheena60th brthday cake …I was inspired by wedgwood japerware…Vanilla and chocolate cake layers, filled with chocolate buttercream and marzipan, and covered with vanilla fondant. The paisley lace are handpiped royal icing pieces which are individually stuck onto the fondant scolloped circles. The white flower pattern inbetween the two rows of lace are fondant cut outs for which I used the JEM elegant scroll cutter and cut out just the top half of the centre of the scroll design. I made all the flowers (pansy, chincherinchees, gypsophila) and foliage (ivy etc) and stand for the 60 out of gumpaste. The filigree 60 was also hand piped with royal icing. Fixing the lace pieces was torture but well worth the effort TFL!
Bold and the beautiful! By sheenaThis was quite scary for me… never really worked with so much black on white before….so I was as careful as I could be! The bride found a picture of a simple version of this design online and wanted me to add some RI filigree/lace work on the sides, some RI filigree butterflies and I also suggested to her that I would make the pearl border look more pearly than in the original design. The cake was a german chocolate cake (10″ bottom and 5″ top) filled with rich chocolate buttercream and covered with vanilla fondant. All the roses and both the bows I made of gumpaste and the black lace and white butterflies were handpiped RI. The black and beige ribbon around he cakes are real satin ribbon. The pearl border are all hand rolled fondant pearls (courtesy my parents….they helped!!) and I dusted them with white pearl dust. I’ve put pictures of a few angles so you can view moreof each side. This was also the first time I was actually given a design to work with. Hope you like it!

All of the designs were made with sugarveil. The flowers are gumpaste and the suspended butterflies are porcelain.

Fondant square draped over top, to give the illusion of fabric draping. Super gold luster dust hand painted filagree work. Large Chinese character “Xi” (meaning double happiness…like the BEST wishes EVER for the couple) made out of royal icing and painted in super gold. Super gold painted g-paste braided borders, hand painted gum paste cherry blossom flowers around base and in center. Sprayed gold new style Wilton pillars.
