tangled-tower-cake-tutorial

Got a chance to make the tower again, so I decided to make a step by step tutorial.

Hope you enjoy it!

Supplies

  • Cardboard
  • Caster sugar
  • Colors
  • Doll
  • Fondant in grey, brown, cream and two shades of purple.
  • Kitchen towls
  • Kitchen towel tube
  • Knife
  • Roller

Cut out a cardboard circle, put a doll inside to check the size.

Cover it with fondant.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Roll out fondant to make the wall.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Put a circle of water for the wall.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Stick the wall on our circle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Take the kitchen towel for the tower.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Cover it with fondant.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Make small balls of grey fondant, and put caster sugar on them so they would not stick together.
Roll them roller to make a stone impression.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Stick them on the tower piece by piece.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Use some of the grey also on our house if needed. I made the wall too short, so had to add some of the grey to make it taller.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Make the roof. It does not matter which color it is; it will be covered later. Shape a curve for the window using a roll of kitchen towels.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Cut small squares of two shades of violet and layer them on the roof. Finish the roof with a bit of brown to make nice edge. Leave it to dry completely.

Make wood impressions  on brown fondant, and add decorative trim to the house and window shutters.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Put some fondant on the bottom of the house to stick it to the tower. Make a support so it will not fall down.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Check it to see if it looks okay.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Make final decorations, plant and flowers

Hope you will find this as useful as I found so many things on this site!
Thanks for looking.

Thank you so very much for taking your time to do the tutorial, it's awesome!!! quick question. I assume the tower is inserted into the cake at the bottom, but what's the support so that it doesn't fall? does the cake holds it? ok, thank you!!

Thanks to everyone for commenting or just looking. Rosie, it is true that it is quite heavy. I put support as for a second layer of cake and stuck three long wooden sticks to hold the position.

What a beautiful cake piece, it would work for a little girl of any age for their cake. You did such a lovely job on this !

Wow! This is gorgeous!! I do have questions though. How long and wide did you make the wall and the roof and the circie for the base? Thank you for sharing! I want to make this for my best friends grand-daughter next month. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful work!! :)

Ivab, thank you so much for this tutorial! It inspired me to make my own version of the tower for a Tangled cake as well. It was heavy but it stood on it's own so well that it stood inside the cake perfectly. I actually only carved a hole in the cake half way in and then just pushed it in and it held wonderfully. Please see my finished cake below. Thanks again!

Thank you for posting this tutorial. My daughter is Rapunzel mad at the moment so I had a go making this tower for her 4th birthday cake - my first ever attempt with using fondant! It took me a few attempts but I was really happy with the result. The link below is a photo of it . Thanks again for the great tutorial :)
