THE Red Velvet Cake or (daughter in laws revenge cake)

My ex-mother in law gave me this recipe when I was married to her son and it was the best cake ever. SO moist and the flavor is very good.... after the divorce she refused to give it to me again when I lost it. Got it back from my daughter so I want to post it all over the net for ALL to try because it really is an awesome cake. And because I never want to loose it again! Truly sweet revenge.

Doesn't red food colouring make it bitter? Which food colouring do you use? (Brand + form i.e paste, gel, liquid?)
_z_ I use wiltons food colors no bitter taste..
liquid is best
Great Story, LOL!!! I needed a red velvet receipe for Valentines Day. Thank you
Great story love it! Does anyone out there in Australia know where I can get buttermilk from?
If you can't find buttermilk, add a tablespoon of white vinegar to 1 cup of lowfat milk. Let it sit for a few minutes and you will have a buttermilk substitute.
Love the story! Good job on your revenge! I will surely use this recepie and Thank you!!
LOL love the story, Spazmo, Coles and Woolies sell buttermilk :)
Thanks girls its a true story and the cake is truly awesome!. As for the food coloring I use just whatever is on the shelf in the bottle... in a bottle like a small vanilla bottle... McCormicks is one brand but the last one I used was Kroger Brand and as for buttermilk the vinegar in the white milk works like a charm!!! I have used that before in this very recipe!
Thanks for the help with the buttermilk ladies - much appreciated :)
revenge is best served sweet! luv it! ;)
Does this cake stand up well in as a 3D cake ( I have never had Red Velvet Cake and am dieing to try this recipe...Also..Does Cream Cheese Icing Pipe?
Love the story and can't wait to try, you can buy Buttermilk in the Dairy aisle in Australia.
Can you pipe this cream cheese frosting?
This particular cream chese frosting is not pipeable... you could maybe tweak it some to make it pipe though? Add more sugar? I dont pipe icing so I am not sure about it. About the 3D question. this is a very very moist cake. I doubt it is going to stand up to sculpting.
