Rick's Special Buttercream

Searched for a buttercream recipe that was not so sweet but still had a rich flavor. Original recipe had 8 cups of powdered sugar, 1 cup of whipping cream, all shortening, and no meringue powder. Found this on Allrecipes.com

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of salted butter
  • 1 cup of shortening
  • 2 tbls of meringue powder
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 6 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup of whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Using paddle attachment on blender generously beat the butter and shortening together until it’s fluffy. Slow down to stir setting (if using KitchenAid) and add vanilla and whipping cream. At this speed add powdered sugar two cups at a time scraping the bowl each time you add sugar. Once all ingredients are in the bowl beat on low for at least 10 mins or until buttercream is fluffy.

I have been trying to find a buttercream recipe that calls for whpping cream. Is this consistency suitable for a wedding cake? Is is too creamy, will it stick well?
