This is a secret (well, not so much anymore…lol) recipe that my grandmama used to make us every year at Christmas time. Then my mom made it and now I do. Best soft Molasses/gingerbread cookies EVER!! But you must promise to NEVER tell anyone…
Mix wet ingredients.
Add in the dry ingredients, mix well.
Chill dough for 1 hour.
Roll dough into small balls and dip one side into sugar.
Place sugar side up onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in oven for 8-10 minutes 375*.
Cool on wire rack.
Hello, I am from Australia and believe it or not but shortening is not easy to find so I was wondering if it was possible to substitute with butter instead. I apologize as a Grandmama's recipe is always treasured. Sweetest regards, Anna
Anna, you can substitute butter in this recipe, but the cookies may spread/flatten more than they would with shortening. hope this helps....
