Enhanced Box Mix Recipe..

I have tried a couple of the other enhanced cake mix recipes on here, and for some reason none of them really did it for me. Most contained sour cream, and my cake just didn’t seem to have the flavor I wanted. So I kind of mixed a few together to see what I could come up with, and this has been my winner for a while. It’s dense enough to stand up to the weight of buttercream and fondant, but still has a nice light feeling when you eat it.

Ingredients

  • 1 Box Cake mix (preferably Duncan Hines)
  • 1 Box pudding mix*
  • 1 stick softened butter (1/2 cup)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 c. vegetable oil
  • 1c. whole milk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • *Flavor suggestions: With any chocolate mix, add chocolate pudding. Yellow cake mix, vanilla or banana work well. White cake mix, you can get away with just about anything. Strawberry, vanilla, banana… they all create light flavors without being too overpowering.

Instructions

  1. Combine Pudding and cake mix. Stir until powder is all mixed together. Add butter, eggs, oil, and milk, and combine until batter is smooth and even, almost a pudding like consistency. Bake as directed on box.

You can use a Duncan Hines Devil's Food & add 1/2 cup Kahlua, plus 1 cup buttermilk. If you like coffee flavor, it's fabulous!

I wanted to know if this cake recipe can be modified to add chocolate chips? If I grate the semisweet chips and fold them in would that constitute a chocolate chip pound cake?

I found the cake tasted like a cake mix it did not have the density, flavor or the crumb you get with the WSAC

This is a GREAT recipie as I have made it many times before but it DOES NOT work at high altitude. Your cake will fall 9 out of 10 times.

I tried this recipe and it was delicious! I used a Jello instant vanilla pudding mix...the small box size.
