Devils Food

This is hands down the BEST chocolate cake I have ever eaten. It comes out of the pan perfect, no need to level or trim, just an amazing cake! I prefer this cake with a whipped buttercream icing, not too sweet.

This looks like the chocolate cake I used but instead of milk, mine takes buttermilk... it is to die for, I can't wait to try this one

I had been trying different chocolate cake recipes, and they were either too dry, too dense or just not good. But this one is awesome, I love it. I give it a 10plus.

Not able to get it out of the pan in one piece though, even though I greased & floured it. My bad. Good tasting cake. Very moist.

Hi Selya,

I only use 1 teaspoon of coffee... I guess it depends on your preference. It is a delicious cake! It is exactly like the recipe I've been using for years, except I use buttermilk and it doesn't call for coffee. This one is a nice tweak to it.

Just made this recipe into cupcakes-- they turned out PERFECT!! As someone else suggested, i increased the oven temp to 350 and baked for 18-20" for perfect, tall, gloriously domed cupcakes!!

You don't have to use coffee, you can substitute water. I just find that coffee enriches the chocolate flavor.
