Chocolate Chilli Cake

This is a recipe that i stumbled apon whilst experimenting with ingredients. Adds a fiery kick to a classic chocolate cake. Enjoy…

INGREDIENTS

6oz butter/margarine, softened
6oz Sugar (caster or granulated)
3 Medium eggs
6oz Self raising flour
1½ tsp Cream of tartar
1½ tsp Baking Powder
2 tbsn cocoa powder
1 tsp chilli powder

DIRECTIONS

Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 3 (325°F/162°C)
Grease and line an 8″ deep round cake tin
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and the sugar on a medium setting of an electric mixer until light in colour, and all mixed in.
In a seperate mixing bowl, sift together the rest of the DRY ingredients.
Add one egg and a time to the butter mix, alternating with dry mixture. So its one egg, followed by one third of dry mix. Continue until all of the eggs are used, and all of the dry mix.
Pour into the pre-prepare cake tin, and place in the oven for about 20-30 minutes, or until risen and firm to touch. Also, to check if it’s done, stick a skewer into the cake, and if it comes out clean, the cake is done. if it comes out with mixture on, then it still has to be cooked for longer.
